“When I make a sculpture I want people to feel movement. I want them to know, without thinking, what the next moment will bring. I try to capture action in mid-stride, smells, temperature, and feelings. I get great satisfaction when an old cowboy tells me that my art is real, that it is accurate.”
Jay Contway was born and raised in the area around the Missouri Breaks and the small town of Malta, Montana. He is a self-taught sculptor who has been selling his work since the early 1960’s.
